The workshop is designed to allow participants to:
-
Improve their understanding of socioeconomic status (SES) as a social determinant of health (SDH) and the relationship between health disparities and health inequities.
-
Evaluate the relevance of national, state, and local goals and guidelines in providing cancer services to socioeconomically disadvantaged populations
-
Discuss real life scenarios in initiating or improving cancer services and programs for socioeconomically disadvantaged populations.
-
Develop with concrete action plans to reduce cancer health disparities among socioeconomically disadvantaged populations in their communities.
-
Become familiar with SESRCD capacity building services, including opportunities to get linked with behavioral and social science volunteers, participation in the SESRCD online community, and support through mini grants.
Workshop participants:
In terms of our target audience, our workshop materials are geared specifically towards those working as community partners or in community based organizations that provide direct services and programs to underserved populations impacted by cancer. Although researchers, scientists, doctors, clinicians, etc. are welcome to attend as participants (if interested), they are likely to be familiar with a lot of the material and unless they work in partnership with community based organizations, may not be able to take advantage of some of our resources.
What to Bring:
Please bring a lunch. We also encourage you to use this opportunity to network with other cancer serving professionals who will be attending the training. As such, please feel free to bring business cards and brochures as appropriate to facilitate this process.
